QI CycleStation consists of self-powered remote bicycle kiosks, or CycleStations. Users can sign out bikes at any of these stations using their credit card or other approved ID card and return them to any of the stations in the system. The CycleStations are solar-powered and communicate via GPRS with the central server over a secured network. The server authorizes bicycle signouts using an online credit card clearing gateway or via its internal ID card management system. The server can be located anywhere in the world, as it is connected to the CycleStation modem pool by an Internet-based encrypted private network.
